Low-cost simulation from Metropolis

Motion simulator-based attractions company Metropolis Entertainment has announced the launch of a new low-cost single seat unit for the museums and heritage sector.

The simulator has a 2.5m x 1.5m footprint, operates from a simple mains power supply and is configured around a high definition audiovisual system. It also integrates with a motion effects seat which precisely co-ordinates vibration and drop with images and sound presented to the rider.

Built from high quality fibreglass on a steel space frame base, it has retractable castors in the base to allow relocation to different locations within a single venue or even transported between multi-site operations. External themeing is removable, using vinyl graphics, and images are presented using a high definition LCD screen from a high definition video server.

Initially the unit will come pre-programmed with four films, although up to six are possible at any one time.

Film One is a scientifically correct journey through the next generation of jet engine, which was produced - in high resolution computer animation - in association with GE Transportation Systems, the worlds largest jet engine manufacturer.

Film Two is a journey through the human cardiovascular system, produced in association with GE Healthcare and which takes the rider on a totally factual journey through the heart and lungs.

Film Three is a factual journey through the water cycle sponsored by Unilever.

Film Four is a journey around the International Space Station, again made in high definition computer animation and created in association with former NASA astronaut Dr David Scott as Technical Director. Scott was mission commander on Apollo 15 and is a consultant to Metropolis on space related projects.

A number of other films are available from Metropolis's extensive library, covering predominantly aviation, aerospace and natural sciences subject matter and will be specified in consultation with client museums.
